指導者に夢を託すというのは、危険な作業である。信頼とは、その責任の一部を負うことでもある。危険とは、その成果で自らの判断と自尊心を失うことにあるだろう。
オバマ米大統領の演説を聞いた。増派という。そしてその言葉を聞きながら「平和」を信じた。
戦死者、死傷者に対する思い、戦功、戦果に対する悲しみ、責任、結果に対する強い自覚、一種の奇跡としか思えない。
なぜなら、戦死者は隠したがるものであるし、戦果は人々の虚栄心をあおる。何が起きるのかということを、損得抜きで客観視できる人間はそうそういない。あまりにも多くの人間の生命が、あまりにもたやすく危険にさらされることを、理解し行動するのはたやすいことではない。人間が、立場によって敵になると、言うことは場所によってこんなにも困難といえる。
