米州機構（ＯＡＳ）は２８日、ワシントンで常設理事会の緊急会合を開催し、クーデターが「民主主義の秩序を乱した」と非難決議を採択したという。
軍は、セラヤ大統領の閣僚や反米左派のベネズエラ、キューバ、ニカラグアの大使を拘束しているという。
オバマ米大統領は２８日、声明で「民主主義や法の支配、（加盟国が集団で民主主義を擁護・維持することを確認する米州機構の）米州民主主義憲章を尊重するべきだ all political and social actors in Honduras to respect democratic norms, the rule of law and the tenets of the Inter-American Democratic Charter」と述べ、クリントン国務長官は「米州民主主義憲章に違反し、非難されるべき行為。対話を通じて平和的に解決するよう求める The action taken against Honduran President Mel Zelaya violates the precepts of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, and thus should be condemned by all.
