→ 世界の100人に小泉首相 「おもしろい人物」
小泉首相が、タイムの「世界を動かした100人」に、日本人でただ一人、しかも政治家としてはじめて選ばれたという。なんだか誇らしい。評価が、the intersting thing is that he is intersting. などとなっている。good-looking, straight-talking marverick と書いている。fascinating, or splendid のほうが近いように思うが、trust-worthy, most trusted であったりすることは、書かれない前提である。
Simply put, I don't like the way they write about our Prime Minister in the article on our Prime Minister in the TIME magazine 'The People Who Shape Our World'.
The Prime Minster Koizumi has been leading the country and our political world ever since he took the office in many ways. We owe a lot to the way he presented the world. And that changed all -- the way we look at things.
The reform has been both his message and our hope. His administration has been sending that message in a constant, steady, and most understandable, comfortable way. We have been looking for the news -- rare things in Japan -- and there they are. Always, with a clear indication where we are heading for.
First of all, Japan is a democratic country and it is not because of his up-bringing that he is trusted. The article may have mixed up the Japanese politics with the royal family affairs. He is trusted because he share the sure sense of our common sense with us, as a Japanese citizen.
He is fascinating in the way that let us believe that things can get better. He showed us the world and how things get done, in the most splendid way, and the various factors which had been hidden from our sight under the totalitarian ideology. His visits to Shrine won't humiliate our desire for peace, which run deep in our diplomacy.
